Today was one of those days that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and will take a week to recover from. It started early for me, at 5:45… we were at the track at 6:45 before most of the Fox crew… There was rehersals and all of that… Larry Mac has a #28 Havoline scooter that he rides to the compound which cracked me up, you have no idea. He’s very nice. Never once saw Hammond or DW come into the compound. Krista Voda is extremely nice and never saw Matt Yocum come into the compound.. never saw him period.
I had to take a lot of readers over to the Hollywood Hotel about an hour before the pre-show started and Chris Meyers is very nice also… I walked in, freezing, and he said hi and offered me a cup of coffee. I went back to the compound and saw him…. my favorite football player before Brett Favre entered my life…..
Troy Aikman.
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t say anything. Jack and Rafiah stood there like what the fuck but I just smiled and watched him ride off on a golf cart. Rumor has it that McDreamy (Patrick Dempsy) was there but I didn’t see him.
During the pre-race, I was in the production/graphics hauler where everything happens… the director, producers, etc… and it’s amazing. Before the race started, I went up to the booth to see if the lady in there needed anything for the anchors and I got to see the race start and DW’s “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity” live in person. In the booth next to them was Rusty Wallace, and beside them was the NASCAR officials, including Mike Helton and Brian France. Helton rode in the elevator up one of the times I went up before the race and he is a very intimidating man in person. Rusty smiles and says hi to people, and seems really nice.
So I was back and forth up there and the hauler throughout the race and swore Tony was going to win until…. the wreck. I was upset, severly upset and more pissed off than him I think. Then when Martin took the lead, I threw up because I was so nervous for him. When the end of the race happened, I saw the frantic that happened when they had to post the winner in the graphics section and the ending results when NASCAR hadn’t released them. Then… it was over.
I thanked the guy who invited us down not only for the job (we’re being paid), but the oppurtunity. I met some people who can help me with my career path, including a lady who works for NASCAR Images who gave me her card so she can forward my resume when I start to graduate to the right people. To be honest, I don’t want to go back to school… I want to go to California to work.
Alas, we’re leaving in the morning…. and my dream job is over… for now. Now… I must sleep.
