To the left, to the left…

So we’re home… and I’m home and in my recliner watching American Idol. I can say that I miss Daytona…. I somehow miss the Hilton, but mostly those fluffy ass pillows they had. I miss hearing the engines roar. I miss being able to just sit and watch the beach. I spent like two hours doing that one day, just sitting there, thinking about stuff.

Regardless, I’m home now and I went to class and worked today. That’s all that is exciting that happened to me. Tomorrow I have work, law, channel 11 news, and biology.

So yeah, not very interesting :-p

Day 5: Long, Long Day

Today was one of those days that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and will take a week to recover from. It started early for me, at 5:45… we were at the track at 6:45 before most of the Fox crew… There was rehersals and all of that… Larry Mac has a #28 Havoline scooter that he rides to the compound which cracked me up, you have no idea. He’s very nice. Never once saw Hammond or DW come into the compound. Krista Voda is extremely nice and never saw Matt Yocum come into the compound.. never saw him period.

I had to take a lot of readers over to the Hollywood Hotel about an hour before the pre-show started and Chris Meyers is very nice also… I walked in, freezing, and he said hi and offered me a cup of coffee. I went back to the compound and saw him…. my favorite football player before Brett Favre entered my life….. (more…)

Day 4: Face to Face

100_1369.JPGToday we went to the track bright and early at 8 a.m. and from there, I was in the production and graphics hauler which is where the director/producer/ and graphics people are. It was… awesome. I heard the director and producers tell the pit commentator what to ask the drivers and all of that stuff and it was just good to see… knowing that’s what I wanted to do. Bascially… that’s where I want to be if I get a job in NASCAR. Saw Hunter, a guy we went to school with who graduated two semesters ago and now has a job with ESPN doing the Busch series stuff… At 12, we were done, so I went to the Busch race and the other two came back to the hotel room………. (more…)

Day 3: Sucked

Today sucked, there’s no two ways about it.  The most exciting thing of the day was having Larry Mac bump into the golf cart I sat in and watching Jeff Hammond at the cut-a-way car outside the Hollywood Hotel.

That’s all I have to say about today.

Day Two: Going to Jail and Smoke

So, the day started off like yesterday… we wake up, get dressed and head to the track. Well, it was a little different. We head downstairs to valet and I see Rutledge. We hug, talk, and we’re all on our way to the track. So we get to the track and when we start to pull in, the cop stops me, ask me about the handicapped thing handing from the mirror. I tell him it’s my mother’s and that it’s just hanging there, that we weren’t using it. He said to take it down and if I used it again I would go to jail.. so I take it down and pull forward to head to the media compound. He starts banging on the rental car… BANGING on it and runs up to me and ask where I’m going and I told him that I was going to the media compound and I show him my credentials and he says that if I pull any further that he would have me arrested. My response: “How do you expect me to leave? Move the 10 cars behind me?” So I pull in and pull out. We call the guy and he says to park in a space and pay and we would be reimbursed, so I do, and it’s 40 fucking bucks… yet I have to pay it… neither the other two act like they give a rats ass and I get so pissed off between that and the cop that I start crying. See, when I get mad, I want to hit and kick and throw things and I had nothing to do.

So we get to the media compound and we do what each of us did yesterday. I hang around the production, graphics haulers, and then I go up to the media booth with Jack. Watch Phil Parsons and that other guy talk about Truck practice and Michael Waltrip came in and talked… saw Rusty Wallace leave the ESPN booth and he smiled, saying hi. So Jack and I sit there until lunch and we head back to the compound to eat… and it was this shit I don’t eat so I head to the grandstands and buy a burger. So we eat and all of that and I get a call from one of the guys in the graphics truck to come there, so I do, and he tells me to fax a rundown to some numbers, then take some cue cards to the booth and then the Hollywood Hotel, ASAP… so I run back to the Featherlite hauler (the main one), and fax the rundowns, I get a cart and call Jack to come down and meet me to get the booth’s cue cards, and I haul ass over to the Hollywood Hotel…

Now that itself was a hell of an ordeal… I had to seriously move through race traffic on feet… they were introducing drivers and people were rushing to their seats and I’m trying to get to the tunnel to get to the hotel, without my jacket b/c I left it in the hauler and I’m FREEZING…. so I get there, almost running over one of Robby Gordon’s crew members by the way, and run inside, giving the cards to Jeff Hammond. From there, I head back, giving an ESPN guy a lift while talking about Tony and how I predicted him to win today…. (more…)
