Loyalty to JGR is dropping…. fast | Diary of a Track Bunny

Kyle Busch has finally decided where he will race next season, agreeing to a deal to drive the #18 Interstate Batteries machine for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008 and beyond. Busch will replace J.J. Yeley, who will move to Wood Brothers/JTG Racing next season to steer the #21 Ford. Busch made his decision after recently narrowing the field to three teams; Gibbs, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., and Evernham Motorsports. An official announcement is expected within the next 2-3 weeks.

In addition, JGR will jump from Chevrolet to the Toyota camp beginning in 2008, joining Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing and Team Red Bull on the list of teams running Toyota Camrys. Neither Busch nor JGR have made any official comment on the move, but Gibbs officials have already informed Hall of Fame Racing that they will not continue to provide the team with engines next season, prompting Hall Of Fame to contact Richard Childress Racing about a similar engine-supply deal for 2008.(Motorsports Soapbox)(8-6-2007)

I can’t believe this… if this is true. JJ has improved SO much this year and they are going to drop him for Kyle Busch? Sure, he’s a damn good race car driver but JJ has been close several times to winning the race. My loyalty to Joe Gibbs Racing is going to drop because of this and I will only support Tony Stewart. I’ve only liked Denny Hamlin because he’s Tony and JJ’s teammate… not because of the cocky playboy ass that he is. And Toyota? Gah.

I just seen this. Man JJ deserves more than that! Now as for the Toyota thing one word STUPID! I drive a Toyota and love it but have they been watching how they have been doing? Tony better start understanding what it’s like to have a win-less streak. Wonder what the Tony and Denny think of this.

Penni and I were talking about Tony going to Toyota yesterday and I don’t know how he would feel about it… he probably wouldn’t like it.

I’m not too sure that he would either. He ownes quite a few Chevy’s already.

I can’t imagine Tony and Kyle on the same team. I really like Kyle, but I don’t see him and Tony working together. JD had better get a professional counselor on staff. As for the Toyota stuff, I can’t believe that Coach would make that move unless he felt he could win with them. And I am sure he will use his own engines so that will help. My roommate will have a cow about this. She hates Kyle and Toyota, and loves Tony and JGR. She will not be happy if either or both of these are true.

mmm…what do i think…. i think Tony has loyalty to Coach Gibbs but i don’t think Tony will stay around much longer if he’s driving a toyota… glad to know you didn’t really like Denny… i don’t like him either… and Kyle and Tony teammate? interesting…let’s see how this plays out..

you did hear it is official .. i am now a Gillette Evernham Motorspots fan (a GEM) and not a EMS fan anymore, didn’t you?

As soon as I heard this I questioned if TS has already phoned Shrub and told him HOW IT’S GOING to be and where everyone ranks on the team. I love TS but he does have an ego. As far as Coach selling out to Toys here’s my take: Humpy has had Toyota on the walls of LMS for two years and since Waltrip et al have not delivered they are looking for somebody who can win. My guess is that they are giving Coach everything he wants. It’s all about success and them giving away the store to JGR will result in wins AND the bottom line…. selling cars!

One other thing, anyone know how much time is left on Tony’s contract. He won’t dessert his contract but as pissed as he is with NASCAR I look for him to walk away when his contract expires. He doesn’t need the money, has Eldora and can celebrity race whenever he wants. I’m thinking he’s beginning to think about settling down a little.

I believe his contract goes out in 2009 but he’s been talking about extending it a few years with Gibbs. I don’t see him leaving Gibbs until he ends his NASCAR career and he has said on his show that if Zippy were to leave him, he’d never race in NASCAR again because he couldn’t have another Cup crew chief.

I think this Toyota thing might play into Tony extending his contract or not… plus the fact that Gibbs has now dropped (or will if they do drop JJ) two of Tony’s “finds” (Leffler being the other one).
