I will be the first one to admit that I love a good fight on the track. Whether it’s bumping cars, bumping someone out of the way, rubbin’ is racing, or just getting out of the cars and knockin’ the wind out of each other - I love it. So when Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya jumped out of their cars yesterday during the Watkins Glen race, I was cheering as if I was ringside at a boxing match. They pushed, shoved, grabbed helmets and then seperated by officials and Jeff Burton. Then there was the slip of “ass” by Harvick - a slip that was intentional and said to show harm to a fellow competitor.
So being the Tony Stewart fan that I am, you can imagine how shocked I was today when I hear that neither Montoya nor Harvick would be fined or penalized and that there would be no fine for the bleep that Harvick let loose on the air.
I believe Series Director John Darby thought, “It was cool as hell.”. Right Mr. Darby, because cussing on television is so great! All parents will tell their children to do the same. Isn’t that what people complained about when Earnhardt and Stewart said bad words. WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!
Well screw the children apparently because Mr. Darby and the rest of the NASCAR officials like it.
Yet Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. celebrating saying one of the “bad words” is an action detrimental to stock car auto racing? Kevin Harvick telling ESPN and all of America (and the world) that he was going to kick Juan Pablo Montoya’s ass is not detrimental to stock car auto racing? Both words are allowed on cable network television, which is what ESPN is a part of.
NASCAR needs to learn consistently… not just on the crew chief fining stand point but on the driver standpoint also. That’s not coming from a Tony Stewart fan… but a NASCAR fan. I would be in rage like I am now if I was a Greg Biffle fan or a Jeff Gordon fan.
Then again, Juan Pablo is their ticket into the whole “diversity” crap and considering he’s already on probation for his “finger” to the camera back in Phoenix… they wouldn’t want to get rid of their new meal ticket, would they?
