Opinion… 10/06/07

Post your opinion on qualifying today. Michael Waltrip wins the poll and go-or-go-home cars that qualified 9th or so didn’t make the race. Is it right? Is it fair? Did Waltrip sell himself to the devil?

#55-Michael Waltrip won the Budweiser Pole for the UAW-Ford at Talladega Superspeedway with a speed of 189.070mph for his 1st pole of 2007, first since Pocono in June 2005, the 4th of his career and 2nd ever for Toyoya. #22-Blaney qualified second with the rest of the top-10 quite different from the norm: #83-Vickers, #78-Nemechek, #00-Reutimann, #27-Jacques Villeneuve [Cup debut], #49-Andretti, #43-Labonte, #9-Kahne and #19-Sadler. The non-top 35 teams that made the race were: #55-Waltrip, #22-Blaney, #83-Vickers, #78-Nemechek, #00-Reutimann, #27-Villeneuve, #49-Andretti and #44-Jarrett [who qualified 8th but will start 43rd as the top 7 non-top 35 start where they qualified and 8th starts 43rd unless an eligible past champ needs the spot]

#2-Kurt Busch and #6-David Ragan failed postrace inspection for being too low in the front. Their times will be disallowed, forcing them to start at the rear Sunday.

yes i believe hell did freeze over! i think it’s ridiculous and i think there should be something about about the way the go or go home drivers qualify … i actually agree w/ Bono (or who ever said) … you know…a heat race to qualify for the go or go homers… could be interesting

ps love the little graphic there

I thought it was a pretty snowy day in hell, to be honest. And this Villeneuve thing is pissing me right off, so I guess I should be glad I won’t be around to watch the race tomorrow =\

wow, is that true? they didn’t get in if they qualifyed 9th? i can’t believe that. but i’m happy Mikey got the pole.

NASCAR needs to do something about that top 35 in owner’s points provisional, and just let the fastest 43 in qualifying race.
Only the fifteen teams that were outside the 35th place cutoff ran in qualifying trim, which is why they had the fastest times. Of course, only seven of those teams made it, and Dale Jarrett got a past champion’s provisional.
Most of the guys who qualified in front will be statistically likely to have engine trouble during the race.
