Your question made me think …. For me if I was to move to the Charlotte area would be because I have friends & family(now) that live there and the cost of living is cheaper then it is here in Jersey; another reason would be that I like the area, it’s just like you said, it’s the cross between the city and the country. I wouldn’t be moving there just as a Nascar fan or someone who would want to date a driver/crew member. I’m sure it would be nice to run into them and say hi but after the 50th time, I’m sure it gets old.

Well, for me, I was looking at three areas when I was looking to move, Birmingham, Nashville, and Charlotte. I was offered a job here last October for this school year, so I took it. As far as hooking up with a driver, not in this life time. I am too old and too fat. But I don’t spend alot of time in Mooresville (just to go to Wal-Mart) or Huntersville (just to eat), so I haven’t had alot of encounters with drivers. The closest I have come is almost getting run over by Johnny Sauter in Huntersville, and almost hitting Mikey and his new partner in that car he was talking about riding around with him in in Inside Nextel Cup one night. My roommate and I were coming home from church and I was so intent on the car that I almost rear-ended them. I guess that would have been a way to meet someone.

But there is so much more to do here than just NASCAR. Saturday we went to see the Checkers hockey game. We are going to see the Bobcats play, to an areana race (or 4 or 5). There are several minor league baseball teams here, and Hickory has a great dirt track.

I also like the fact that I live in a small town, where I can go into Bi-Lo and some kid from my school will come up to me and say hello (even thought I don’t know them), and then I can drive for less than 30 minutes and no one knows me when I am yelling rude things at the other hockey team.

I love it here, and I don’t see me ever meeting a driver. I don’t know where they hang out, I can’t afford to live on Lake Norman, and I wouldn’t want to date anyone in the spotlight like that, mainly because I don’t want to read people’s rude comments about me on the internet.

Sorry this was so long. But it is what my experience has been.

i’m glad i saw this post Karah. because you KNOW i’m gonna have somthing to say about my city. =]

i consider charlotte my “home”. i love it; don’t always know why, but i do. my grandmother grew up here, and so did my dad.
so of course, with that said, i won’t ever be one of those girls that moved to charlotte to hookup. haha.

but i will say this, i don’t think just because you’re a girl race fan & you moved to charlotte, you’d be labeled as ‘oh she just moved here for the ’scene”, you know?
i mean yeah, i think it’d be cool to go to a club, or wherever, & chill with them. i’d do that. but i’m not into doing anything else. but it would be cool to hang out i’d think.

for location purposes:
don’t move uptown. ;]
the roads in charlotte are CRAZY annoying. the same road changes names like 450987451 times.
south charlotte is the upscale part.
east charlotte is where you get shot.
& north & west, idk really. never go there.
but i will also say that everyyyyone is coming to charlotte. it’s like the fastest growing place ever & i see like 12 different license plates within about 5 mins on the highway.

I’d want to be down there because of the cost of living and because it’s racing country. I’m a writer too, so I have aspirations, but if I didn’t get where I wanted to? I wouldn’t be upset. I’ve been in radio a little bit, done the online and print newspaper thing in college.

I have a friend down there and I stayed at her condo in October of 06.

Charlotte proper? Very hard to get around. Too many damn highways and signs and traffic from hell. The further you get away from Charlotte, the more managable it becomes. For instance, the route from Albermarle/Sharon Amity to Concord. Rural back road.

I-77 is better than 85. I-77 reminds me of I-95 here in Connecticut. Two lanes, no freakin’ 5 lane traffic with bats outta hell on each side, like it is on 85. Mooresville is a nice town, reminds me of many towns in Connecticut.
