After watching the first part of Brett Favre’s interview on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren, there are several different things that I’m feeling.
As one of the few Green Bay Packers fans in South Georgia, seeing Favre tell Van Susteren that he retired early almost killed me. Seeing him talk about how he wasn’t fully committed at the time that the Packers needed an answer (before the NFL Draft) so he decided to retire. He said in his retirement press conference that he still wanted to play, but he wasn’t going to do anything less than 100%.
During a phone conversastion with Coach Mike McCarthy on June 20, Favre asked McCarthy what he thought about him (Favre) playing again.
McCarthy’s response: “We’ve moved on.”
Favre understands that and he’s okay with that, but when asked what if he still wanted to play, the Packers people told him that they couldn’t picture him playing for anyone else. They (the staff) didn’t want to ruin Brett Favre’s legacy.
But, according to Favre, they wouldn’t mind tanting that legacy with placing him as a backup quarterback for Aaron Rogers.
“If you move on, you tell me one thing, don’t come back and tell the public … just say it, ‘You know, we’ve moved on and we’ll work with Brett on whatever it is,”‘ Favre said in the interview. “Don’t make up a lot of stuff or give half of the truth.”
I have a feeling that this story isn’t going to have a happy ending.
