I’ve been sitting here for almost two hours debating on what to say about the situation that finally was leaked and somewhat announced today.

Yes, that announcement.

Tony Stewart will not be returning to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2009.

Tony Stewart is the reason I got back into NASCAR and is my favorite driver. I know people who want to persue a career in NASCAR or Sports Journalism shouldn’t have a favorite driver, but he’s mine.

I’m going to wait until tomorrow to write out my thoughts after seeing the press conference. I’m in class when it airs so I’m recording it and will watch it when I get home. I will then review it and write what I’m feeling as I’m watching it. I’ve gotten a lot of e-mails today about the topic and I’m just going to wait and see Tony’s face when announcing it. That’s when I’ll know it’s the right thing to do or what I should say.

You know I have some mixed feelings about Tony leaving Joe Gibbs. However, I have faith in Tony’s talent and his ability to meet the challenges that will face them. Who better to take a non contender team and make them a Chase team. He can do it.

I have mixed feelings too. But I think this will keep Tony in Nascar for much, much longer than if he was just a driver. I can’t imagine Nascar without Tony so I think it’s good. He’ll have the money/resources to turn this team around. Tony knows the players and he’ll only hire the best. JMO

Not only does Tony have the money/resources he also has the influence and fan base. There will be doors opened to Stewart Haas Racing (still seems strange to say it) they believed didn’t exist.

It may take a while to turn things around but Tony can do it. My biggest concern is Gene Haas! The man will be out of jail in another year and I’m wondering what role he will play in the company. Hopefully Tony doesn’t let him do the taxes.

I also think it would be amazing to see Tony win in Chicago! A win in Chicago might let us see who he’ll have in Victory Lane with him. HA! HA! Seriously though I’d love to see him and Zippy go out on top.
