Fly on the wall

Tomorrow is Friday and so it ends the first week of my final year of college. Sure, I thought last year would be it but my life and direction has taken a real strange turn since last fall. I think I’ve found what I’m good at and what I understand.  I think I also understand why Taylor complained a lot last year. Being the Editor-in-Chief is a tough job. There’s all of these responsibilities, which I don’t mind, just couple that with class and working almost 20 hours a week, it’s tough. I can do it though…. I think lol

I guess that’s why I’ve been MIA a lot the past two weeks. I’ve been busy preparing for this first week of school and then living this first week of school. Tuesday and Thursdays are the toughest days, especially Tuesdays. I’m between work and class three different times. This rainy weather hasn’t helped things either since I have to come and go from West Hall to Hopper all the time.

Overall it’s been fun, just tiresome. I think we have a pretty good staff this year. We have three new editors, one has written for us for almost three years now, another who has written for us for a year and another new one who hasn’t written for us, but worked on a new magazine the school is putting out last Spring so she has writing and design experience. I’m also dealing with a lot of web stuff too, working with the web editor and multimedia editor. That’s what my independent study class is all about - convergence journalism and how print journalism and broadcast journalism is starting to mesh together.

I need to go finish up a few things for the budget meeting tomorrow before heading to bed.

Let’s hope Tropical Storm Fay doesn’t blow me away.

I ended up extending my schooling a year too. I went to my advisor at the beginning of the semester I was suppose to graduate from and asked him to sign my forms because I needed 25 units to graduate and 18 was considered a full load. He told me if anyone could do it I could and signed my form but told me to really think about stretching myself that thin (I also worked a campus job for 20 hours a week and nannied and babysat on the side to pay) and I decided he was right…I extended grad date a whole year not just a semester and took funny oddball classes along with a couple requirements…I was def happier in the long run.

Also—I too hope you don’t get blown away (or floated away) by fay!

Glad to hear that you have been making it through this first week pretty well.
