Note: I wrote this last night and for some reason, it was saved and not published:
In two hours, it will be Friday. I don’t know why I’m excited about that, but I am. I need this weekend. I need this weekend badly. This week, while it’s been great, has been weird to say the least.
The newspaper came out awesome today. I had a hurricane story on the front page and then my pop culture column in today’s edition. The new editors are getting better at Quark and we were done before 11 p.m. last night, which is great.
Tonight, however, my internet has been sluggish, going in and out and I’ve been trying to come up with story ideas for tomorrow’s budget meeting. I have a few, but not many and Lee has to work in the morning, so he won’t be there. Then after I leave work at 2 p.m., I’m calling a manditory meeting with everyone to discuss multimedia stuff so we can start thinking in terms of things we can incorporate online from our print edition.
Monday, I have to interview the new President of the university and I need to send his PR people (I guess), sample questions tomorrow so that they can be prepared. Monday I also have to work with some of the new writers to help them with their stories and Tuesday I have my first two major test - one in Document Design and the other in News Writing. Thankfully I have time in between classes while I’m at work so that I can study for both before I go to take them.
I was talking about it with someone today and I think I’ve really grown up in the past two years. Two years ago I would be ignoring my responsibilities and not wanting to take on larger roles that test my abilities. I would be more worried about going to concerts or races, etc. I’ve really grown out of that. There’s so much other stuff to do out there and I’m glad I realized that.

Just remember that going to concerts or races or taking a vacation aren’t signs of immaturity or irresponsbility. I love my job but sometimes I need to get away from work for a couple of days just to relax and not get burned out. It sounds like you are very busy right now but don’t think that wanting to (or going to) see the Backstreet Boys or Tony Stewart is a bad thing by any means.

Oh I know, trust me. I meant in terms of constantly going… like say, following Backstreet Boys to 5 or 6 shows on their tour. Stuff like that. They were in Atlanta and I had more important things to do and for some reason, it didn’t really bother me all that much.
I don’t think going and doing that stuff is a bad thing, but I think there’s a point where too much is going just a little overboard and I think in a way I was almost at that point.
