Favre retires after 17 years

brett.jpgThe history of the NFL changed forever Tuesday when Green Bay Packer quarterback, Brett Favre, announced his retirement after seventeen years of throwing passes and winning football games.

Whether you hate the Packers and their diehard cheese head fans, you can’t deny what Favre has done for the sport of football. His passion for the sport and the game helped him through some of the hardest periods of his life, especially the death of his father in 2003 and his wife Deanna’s battle with breast cancer in 2004. Celebrate by being a woman

I’m a woman and I’m proud of it!

And what better way to begin March by having Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Hillary Clinton win three of the four primaries Tuesday in Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas. Senator Clinton is making a stand for women in the United States and is going somewhere that no woman has gone before.

However, she’s not the first woman in American history to stand up for what she believed in. (more…)

I just wanna be your everything!

I’m so sick of American Idol already. It’s not like it used to be and it sucks now. Plain and simple. The end.

If you want to check out the new magazine, head on over.

Sex = Responsibility

Today is Valentine’s Day: You know, the day of love and romance. The isles of Wal-Mart are covered with fake roses, Cars valentine cards, chocolate covered candies, and stuffed animals that sing songs like “Crazy in Love” and “Love Me Tender.”

Something else that is popular on Valentine’s Day is: You guessed it – sex.

This is the editorial that I wrote for the newspaper this week.

Throttle Wide Open: Concert Preview

Dierks Bentley might still have ‘a lot of leavin’ to do’, but not until he hits the stage Saturday night at Wild Adventures.

Dierks Bentley might still have ‘a lot of leavin’ to do’, but not until he hits the stage Saturday night at Wild Adventures.

Bentley, who has performed at Wild Adventures twice before, is making Valdosta the third stop on his “Throttle Wide Open” tour.

Bentley, a native of Phoenix, AZ, jumped on the country charts in 2003 with his breakthrough single, “What Was I Thinkin’,” a song about a girl in a “little white tank top.” With the release of his second album in 2005, Bentley became a major star in country music with his hits like the sexy ballad “Come a Little Closer” and a song from his third album, “Every Mile a Memory.”

Opening for Bentley on his 2008 tour is American Idol alum Bucky Covington and South Georgia’s very own Luke Bryan. (more…)

Feels like tonight….

Yeah, so I skipped my Astronomy lab tonight. I’ve been feeling off all freakin’ day and after work, I came home, took some meds and took a nap. I’m not sure what was up with me. Thankfully I have a counseling appointment on Wednesday after my Biology lab.

Luke BryanOn a bright note, I got contacted today from Luke Bryan’s manager’s assistant (well she emailed me for the manager) about setting up an interview with Luke before he comes here on Feb 16th for the newspaper, so that’s awesome. He’s from South Georgia and hey, he co-wrote “Good Directions” which is one of my favorite songs. It’ll be nice to do a profile on him. It’ll be a nice addiction to my portfolio.

Clumsy because I’m falling in love… I’m off like a prom dress!

The WGA Strike: My POV

This is an opinion piece column for this week’s newspaper about the WGA strike.

Are you tired of watching reruns of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Ugly Betty” on Thursday nights? You’re not alone and it’s all to be blamed on Hollywood.

Okay, so it’s not just Hollywood but mostly the studios and the Writer’s Guild of America (East and West). The writers’ have been on strike since early November because of several issues such as DVD royalties and the viewing and downloading of full episodes online that they were not being compensated for.

If I went to ABC.com and watched an episode of “Dirty Sexy Money,” the only person making money is the website owner (the studio) who was paid to place the advertising on the website.

The strike began when WGA’s contracts with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) ended on Halloween and talks began that night over the internet (new media) issue. The next day, the WGA committee that was negotiating with AMPTP suggested a strike and it officially began at at midnight on Nov. 5, 2007. (more…)
