Are you ready for some football?
Valdosta State’s Gamma Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority will hold the 14th annual Shamrock Flag Football Shuffle this Saturday.
The proceeds from the event will benefit The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Lowndes County and Prevent Child Abuse America (PCCA).
Since 1981, Kappa Delta has donated over $7 million to prevent child abuse in the United States. The sorority has raised over $15,000 for this weekend’s event.
With the help of the community and local businesses, such as Smitty’s, Arrow Screenprinting and Charley O’Corley’s, Kappa Delta has doubled what they raised last year.
“We are extremely excited because this year we already have over 35 teams signed up to play in the tournament,” Paige Edmonds, senior Speech Communications major, said in a press release. “Last year we had 22, so we are steadily growing each year.”
Edmonds, who is also the Shamrock Shuffle’s Coordinator, believes that beyond the community, that the sorority’s sisters are also responsible for this year’s success.
“Each sister went above and beyond what was required. We are also lucky to have alumni in the community who are very involved and have helped us to continue our tradition of raising more money each year,” Edmonds said.
The tournament will start Saturday at 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at VSU’s Student Recreation Fields on Sustella Ave. There will be raffles at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday where prizes such as an iPod and passes to Wild Adventures could be won.
The event is free and open to the public.
