I’m so happy right now that Ryan Newman won the Daytona 500… the 50th running at that. I saw his last win here at the track in a small race and talked to him about it last weekend and to see him win, his father and wife Krissie being so emotional…. he deserves it.
I’m not ashamed that I spent $40 on a Ryan Newman polo shirt last weekend and I’ll be wearing it tomorrow with pride!
Sure, he hasn’t won two races in a row like Junior, but did come in second in both of his races… but Tony Stewart won the pole today for tomorrow’s Camping World 300.

Recently we’ve gotten a few hits searching for Shane Hmiel, the former NASCAR driver who was suspended indefinitly from NASCAR a few years ago after testing positive for marijuana and cocaine, which he has confessed to doing. Rumors circulated afterwards that he attended rehab, sat on the sofa at his parents place, or disappeared from the world all together.
In 2006 he attempted to race in USAC Silver Crown series but lost his ride to another driver. (more…)

After telling my new co-worker, Brian, yesterday that I wasn’t in the NASCAR mood and didn’t know why…. well less than 24 hours later, I’m buying tickets for the Budweiser Shootout in Daytona. We’re just going down for the day and drive back and stay in Jacksonville and visit with an old friend of mine before coming back Sunday.
